The first two parts of the Open Water Diver class will be exactly as the other Open Water Diver packages Athens Scuba offers, SDI or PADI online knowledge development and confined water training in the pool at Oconee Aquatics & Recreation in Watkinsville.

The check out dives will be done in Cozumel/Mexico, while being on a trip with Athens Scuba in April of 2025.

Athens Scuba Club

We are excited to announce the new Athens Scuba Club began at the end of 2023! We have established this club of avid divers to build a community spirit among those that dive with, take courses from and buy gear at Athens Scuba.  Annual membership fee is $200 but is offset by the benefits detailed below. Joining now means you will be a member for all of 2024. The benefits include:

Athen Scuba Dive Trip Opportunities

Announcing! – New 2024 and 2025 Dive Trips

Fort Lauderdale 2024

27 June – 1 July

We had a great time in 2023, so we’re doing it again! We have planned a great, long-weekend trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida from 27 June to 1 July 2024. This will be a fun and relaxed getaway for newly certified divers and experienced divers alike! Fort Lauderdale offers Florida Keys like diving with usually minimal current and beautiful warm water.

The trip includes accommodations in the Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. The hotel is right across a street from the hotels own beach and right on the bay where the dive shop’s boat is located.

We will do four double-tank boat trips (one on each of two days; and two on one day) for a total of eight dives. Usually the dive operator takes the divers to one of the many wrecks in the area for the first dive and a shallow reef dive for the second dive. All dives are suitable for all certified divers.

This trip would be great to do the Advanced Open Water Diver class.

Diver in double occupancy is $1049.

Diver in single occupancy is $1499.

Roatan 2024

7-14 December

Everyone loved Turquoise Bay Resort in October 2023 so we are going back! The largest of the bay islands off the coast of Honduras, Roatan is one of the best places to SCUBA dive in the Caribbean (and only a 2.5 hour flight away from home). The trip includes six days of up to three dives daily and one boat night dive, as well as an all inclusive meal and drink plan.

Philippines 2025

1-11 March

Announcing! 

A dive trip to Puerto Galera and Dumaguete in the Philippines, March 1-11, 2025. We have been working on a trip to the Philippines for over a year and it is finally happening. We will be staying at the Atlantis Resorts in both locations. Atlantis Resorts are known for setting the standard in concierge service in all aspects of resort vacations (diving, food, accommodations, etc.). This will be the dive trip of a lifetime!

2024 Scuba Summer Camps!

Not one but two!

June 17-21 and July 22-26

Athens Scuba is proud to announce that we are, for the third summer in a row, organizing Scuba Summer Camp for kids from age 10 to 16! This year, for the first time we are offering two full camp sessions. 

We teach children a variety of knowledge and skills around scuba diving, snorkeling and swimming. Required academics will be mixed with fun facts and educational videos. Water skills will be blended with fun activities, free diving and more. All learning and activities will assist the future scuba divers in developing a better finning technique and airway control.

The camp will not fully certify the participants, but it will cover 2/3 of the full SDI Open Water Diver course. We’ll finish all knowledge development and basic skill training. Because the four check out dives required for full certification can’t be completed in a pool, we will offer these as an add-on later in the summer.

Athens Scuba kick off 2023

Athens Scuba has had an eventful year of 2022 and 2023 looks even more exciting.

Besides having our shop now fully operational and stocked, we’ll have plenty of trips and opportunities to get everyone diving!

We started our year strong with a trip to the Springs with a few Open Water and Advanced Open Water students. We had a great weekend and everyone got certified.

This month we are having our biggest trip to the Florida Springs yet, with 19 divers total, 5 of them PADI Open WaterDiver students! On February 25th we’ll start to on our long awaited group trip to Thailand, for two weeks with one week liveaboard and one week exploring Thailand.

The rest of the spring we’ll spend training new divers the basics at the Georgia Aquatic Center in Watkinsville and in the Florida Springs.

We’ll have another exciting group trip to Grenada in April/May and a trip to Cozumel in June.

Our lake Jocassee season is going to start in the beginning of June. We’ll go to the lake every other weekend throughout the summer, until late in October. All dates are on the website.

After the big success of last years scuba summer camp, we’ve decided that we’ll do another this year from June 12th to 16th.

While going to the lake every other weekend we’ll kept on doing confined water session for our Open Water courses, PADI Discover Scuba Dives for people who’ve never been diving before and Enriched Air Nitrox classes, all at the Georgia Aquatic Center.

In September we’ll be going to Roatan, Honduras for another big group trip.
