Athens Scuba is a small and personal SDI and PADI SCUBA dive center based in Athens Georgia.
We specialize in SCUBA diving courses as a personal experience and give you the best SCUBA education possible.
As the only SDI and PADI dive center in Athens GA, we proudly teach to the standards of the biggest and most established SCUBA dive organizations in the world.
An SDI/PADI certification will enable you to dive anywhere in the world for the rest of your life. Recreational SCUBA certifications never expire! However, it is highly recommended that you keep up your SCUBA skills by diving at least once a year so you don’t forget anything important. The SDI/PADI professionals at Athens Scuba have decades of combined experience, have certified hundreds of divers, hold hundreds of SCUBA certifications, and logged thousands of hours under water.
We are passionate about diving and will make sure that you receive the best training according to SDI and PADI standards.
ABOUT THE OWNER
Ben is originally from a small town outside of Hamburg, Germany, where he was raised and introduced to the world of scuba diving by his family. He got PADI scuba certified when he was 11 years young and traveled all around the world diving with his family, who often remarked that they couldn’t keep him out of the water! After completing his schooling, Ben entered the business world of marketing and sales. During his years of climbing the corporate ladder and world travel, Ben’s heart continued to be drawn to the life of scuba diving. Eventually, he traded in his business suits for a set of scuba gear and set off to pursue his training as a PADI dive instructor. This lead him to instructor positions around the world including Thailand, the Maldives, and Saba in the Dutch Caribbean where he eventually met his wife.
Ben and his wife subsequently moved to Athens, Georgia, and settled closer to her family where he opened his scuba business. In his free time, Ben can typically be found spending time with his wife and their adorable dogs, Bailey, Birdie, Bizzy and Bogey (yes – 4 dogs), as he plans his next great adventures under water.
Ben’s diving has taken him to the Red Sea in Egypt, the Maldives, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico and many more places where he’s had the opportunity to see countless seahorses, numerous kinds of sharks, whale sharks, eagle rays, manta rays, octopus, frog fish and so much more.
As a dive guide, Ben’s keen eyes always pick up the smallest of creatures as well as the oceanic giants. More importantly, Ben’s magnetic and fun personality combined with his expertise in scuba diving make him an awesome instructor! Come learn scuba diving with Ben and his team!
Dive Shop and Operations Manager
Brian is an SDI Assistant Instructor and Athens Scuba’s dive shop and Operations Manager. Chances are he’ll answer the phone, respond to your email(s), help teach your classes, fit you for your scuba gear, organize the shop and lead scuba trips around the world. In short, he is involved in every aspect of Athens Scuba.
After an accomplished carreer as a NAVY Commander and then a business consultant he decided it was time to retire. That was until he met Ben and got involved with Athens Scuba. Now he works more than ever and enjoys every minute of it. Brian LOVES scuba diving and continues traveling the world to explore new destinations, either with our group trips or travels ahead of us to new places to make sure we’ll have the best time when we travel there with a group.
Fun fact: Brian has a great smile in every picture that has ever been taken of him…or not.
