DESCRIPTION:We have planned a trip to the Florida Springs from December 8th to 10th. Sample picture of Blue GrottoFor convenience reasons we are staying at the Blue Grotto Dive resort in Williston.  The resort features simple cabins\, with AC/heat\, and private bathrooms for each room.  The price includes the bunk option.  Double bed and cabins with a kitchen can be booked for a small extra fee.  The main reason we prefer this option is\, that we are right at the dive site and save hours of driving over the weekend\, compared to the next closer option that would be in Gainesville\, FL. The former British island with it’s splendid nature and beautiful scuba diving will offer lot’s to discover under water and on land.  WHY Dominica? Dominica is most known for its deep waters and lush landscape\, but what makes Dominica stand out among other locations is its deep rooted cultural history and preserved sites.  Naming the island ‘Waitukubuli’—meaning “tall is her body”—to reflect the mountainous and elegant fertile land.  Dominica remains unspoilt by the impacts of mass tourism and offers an ethical\, environmentally supportive option for travelers.  Embraced by lush foliage and secluded beaches throughout\, the island fosters one’s most dream-like fascinations.  THE DIVING As one of the top ten diving destinations in the world\, Dominica has so much to offer divers of any experience level.  There are calm shallows to explore\, where curious seahorses cling to coral branches. Deeper waters make home for over 20 species of whales that frequent these seas. Fantastic wall dives and unique crevices are waiting to be explore.  La Sorciere\, also known as L’Abym\, is one of the most popular wall dives\, where divers can peruse easily\, as there is little to no current.  Make your way along the volcanic ridge of Crater’s Edge\, where barracuda stalk their prey and large schools of tuna and snapper make appearances. Thermal springs erupt around the island\, including underwater where volcanic bubbles and warm water emanate from certain sites. We’ll have five days of two-tank dives daily and unlimited shore diving from the hotels own dock (if our group has ten or more divers).  This should offer plenty of diving for everyone! SUMMARY:Thailand/Similan Islands Scuba Trip
DESCRIPTION:Because the last time was such a great time\, we have planned a fantastic trip to Thailand\, including a liveaboard trip to the world famous Similan Islands. White sand beach and rock formation on one of the 9 islands of the Similan IslandsIt’s happening again!  We are going to Thailand for a scuba group trip!  It’ll be an 11 night trip that we are planning in advance so that you can plan your vacation time accordingly.  Sunset on Bang Niang Beach\, in Khao Lak Where are we going We are going to Khao Lak\, where Ben lived for 2 dive seasons and knows the area very well.  Khao Lak is just north of the island of Phuket in South West Thailand and it is the perfect gateway to the Similan Islands\, a world famous dive destination.  Khao Lak is essentially an area along the coast line that includes many villages.  We will stay in the original village on Nang Thong beach. Aerial view on Ko BonWhen are we going We’ll go in April of 2024 because it’s towards the end of the dry/high season and provides us with the best opportunity of flat seas and great weather.  Of course there is never a guarantee to see any specific creatures when scuba diving\, but from personal experience and due to the extensive knowledge of the owner of the dive operation\, we are sure that April might give us the best chances to see some big pelagic animals. Our home for 6 daysThe Liveaboard We chose to spend 6 days/6 nights on the liveaboard MV Bavaria.  This liveaboard is one of the newest and most comfortable liveaboards in the Similan Islands.  Ben was able to secure a special trip that will get us to Similan Island\, Koh Bon\, Koh Tachai\, the Surin Islands and Richelieu Rock.  The islands are beautiful and we’ll be able to do 2-3 land excursions during our trip.  The diving in this area is very special and very different to diving in the western hemisphere.  The MV Bavaria has 4 different cabin categories. All cabins are equipped with AC and control in room. 2 standard bunk cabins\, each with two single bunk beds\, shared bathroom\, on the upper deck 2 comfort double cabins\, each with one double bed\, private bathroom\, on the lower deck 6 comfort twin cabins\, each with two single beds\, private bathroom\, on the main deck 2 deluxe cabins\, each with one double bed\, private bathroom\, on the main deck The MV BavariaWe’ll have a full board that consists of breakfast\, lunch\, an afternoon snack\, dinner and all drinks except alcohol. Every diver can do up to 4 dives a day\, except for the last day\, with two dives offered.  This means you can do 22 dives in 6 days!  Nitrox is available on the boat and the use of it is very much encouraged!  Typical soft coral formation around the Similan IslandsThe diving All dives will be guided by an experienced guide\, typically with a ratio of 4 divers per dive guide.  The dive sites around the Similan islands are full of life and color\, usually rather shallow dives with lots of macro\, turtles and smaller rays.  Koh Bon has a large cleaning station and is famous for the chance of seeing Manta Rays (the biggest kind\, OCEANIC MANTAS\, with a wing span of up to 29ft).  I personally saw Mantas as big as 20ish ft on this site.  Koh Tachai is another island on our route with a pinnacle dive site\, great coral growth and incredible underwater landscape.  Here we’ll have a chance to see big pelagics as well. The second Whale Shark Ben has ever seen and the first one he took a picture ofThe Surin Islands offer unspoiled diving close to the border with Myanmar.  Hardly anyone is diving in Surin\, because it’s far away from the Similans and we’ll go out of our way to make sure that we’ll have the chance to see these unspoiled islands.  We are in for a treat!  Richelieu Rock was discovered and loved as a recreational dive site by Jacques Cousteau and is likely Ben’s favorite dive site ever.  It is very colorful\, has tons of fish\, usually a huge group of Jacks right under the surface\, as well as plenty of macro with seahorses\, frogfish\, and maybe the very big guys….  You only know how amazing it is if you’ve had the opportunity to see it… One of the many pools that the hotel offers\, overlooking the beach and sunsetThe hotel We will spend 5 nights (4 before the liveaboard trip and 1 after) in the Seaview Resort Khao Lak\, which is set on Nang Thong Beach\, an extensive stretch of fine sands framed by the emerald blue waters of the Andaman Sea and against a mountainous background.  The Hotel features multiple pools\, restaurants\, bars and plenty of other amenities.  It is directly on the beach\, but also in town giving us plenty of opportunity to explore the quaint town of Khao Lak with it’s restaurants\, beaches and local market. This means that you’ll fly out Thursday night\, April 4th and will be back in the States Thursday April 18th. We won’t include flights into this trip arrangement because there are plenty of different ways to travel to Phuket.  Flights with major carriers from the east coast of the US into Phuket will take a total travel time (including layovers) of around 30 hours. DESCRIPTION:We have planned an amazing trip to Cozumel\, Mexico.  This is such a great trip\, almost all Athens Scuba’s staff will be there.  Tripleader will be our own Divemaster and travel specialist Brian. WHERE ARE WE GOING? We are going to Cozumel for a group scuba trip! 1-week of diving\, enjoying the beach\, the amenities of the beautiful Iberostar hotel and exploring Cozumel. Cozumel is widely regarded as one of the best Caribbean dive destinations and rightfully so! The island of Cozumel is located just off the east coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and is directly across the water from Playa Del Carmen and about an hour and a half from the Cancun airport. Located on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef (the second-largest coral reef system in the world)\, Cozumel is an incredible spot for turquoise Caribbean waters\, white sand beaches\, and world-class diving and snorkeling.  WHY COZUMEL? We chose to spend a week on Cozumel\, because it has everything a diver could wish for. Beautiful reefs\, lots of fish and variety of underwater life\, drift diving\, beautiful beaches and fantastic resorts.  The island also has a lot to offer besides diving\, Cozumel town is fun to explore\, a scooter ride to the east side of the island is a lot of fun and there are some of the oldest known Mayan ruins that can be visited. THE DIVING All dives will be guided by experienced dive guides of the well known and great dive operation of Dressel Divers Cozumel. Dressel has many dive locations around the Caribbean but only send their most experience staff to their prime dive shop in the Iberostar hotel. The dive center is located in the hotel and has it’s own jetty for their 4 boats.Cozumel is almost entirely surrounded by the Mesoamerican Reef\, which is why the island is considered one of the best dive areas in the world. The island featurs 40 different dive sites that have depths ranging from 10-100 feet and are teeming with tropical fish\, colorful reefs and are several marine species. We’ll have 5 days of double tank dives and a night dive included. The dive sites are very close to the hotel\, so most of the days we’ll stop at the hotel between dives. THE HOTEL The Iberostar hotel is not only regarded as one of the best (or maybe THE BEST…) hotel of Cozumel\, it’s also the most southern hotel on the island\, which is the main reason we decided to stay here.  The best and least crowded dive sites of the island are in front or just south of the hotel. Most other dive shops need to have long boat rides to sites that we can reach in a few minutes. The hotel itself is beautifully arranged with the surrounding nature. The fully equipped bungalow-style suites offer a family-friendly atmosphere\, from which you can easily access the pools\, spa or the extensive beach. We are booked on an all inclusive plan that includes all meals and drinks\, including alcohol. The hotel is well know for it’s great kitchen and also offers themed restaurants. DESCRIPTION:We have planned a great trip to Fort Lauderdale\, Florida from June 27th to July 1st.  Tripleader will be our own PADI and SDI Instructor Russell. This will be a fun and relaxed getaway\, for newly certified divers and experienced divers alike! Fort Lauderdale offers Florida Keys like diving with usually little current and beautiful warm water.   We are planning to drive or fly down to Fort Lauderdale on Thursday June 27th\, dive Friday (2 dives)\, Saturday (4 dives)\, Sunday (2 dives) and drive/fly back on Monday July 1st. The trip includes accommodations in the Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort.  The hotel is right across a street from the hotels own beach where you can rent beach chairs on our afternoons off.  The hotel has a variety of room options.  We offer the courtyard and marina view rooms.  You have the choice between a one (King or Queen)\, or two bed (double) configuration.   The hotel is just a short taxi or uber ride away from the Fort Lauderdale International Airport. Self parking fee is reduced for us to $30 per day and $35 for valet parking. The hotel offers a pre booked amenity package with the resort fee of $37 per night/per room.  Daily Resort Charge includes: Guest internet access; two beach loungers and towels; beach bike rentals for two; two bottles of water daily; first daily beverage at High Tide Lounge; daily kids’ breakfast (up to 3 children).   We will do double tank boat trips Friday and Sunday morning.  On Saturday we’ll do 4 dives\, 2 morning dives and two afternoon dives. SUMMARY:Fiji Scuba Group Dive Trip - SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:A Trip to FIJI has always been on your bucket list? For us too! That is why we set up an amazing trip to FIJI in September 2024. After a long period of planning\, it’s actually happening!  We are going to Fiji for a scuba group trip!  It’ll be a 10 night trip to the wonderful island of Taveuni. Sunset view from the hotel Where are we going? We are going to Fiji\, specifically to the island of Taveuni.  This is a stunning place\, far away from mass tourism\, with excellent diving and other activities.  Our resort\, Paradise Taveuni Resort\, a secluded getaway situated on the southern tip of Taveuni\, is a one hour domestic flight from Nadi International Airport followed by a scenic one-hour drive from Taveuni’s Matei Airport. Aerial view of the hotel’s pool and shoreline When are we going? We’ll go in the best season for diving in Fiji\, September of 2024.  It’s during the dry season\, which runs from April to October.  During this time\, the weather is warm and sunny\, making it the perfect time to explore the beaches and jungles.  We’ll be there at the right time to dive the world famous dive site\, Great White Wall\, which is located close to our hotel.  The Diving Taveuni is “The Soft Coral Capital of the World” and Paradise Resort is in the heart of it.  Paradise Dive is owned and operated by Paradise Taveuni Resort and is located on site.  Paradise Resort has an exceptional house reef and shore dives are included\, even on boat dive days.  Rainbow Reef is a mile long reef in the Somosomo Strait between the islands of Taveuni and Vanua Levu and only a 20-30 minute boat trip from Paradise Resort.  It is one of the most famous dive sites in the South Pacific. Paradise Taveuni offers diving on one of the “Top 10 Dive Sites in the World”\,The Great White Wall\, on the legendary Rainbow Reef.  It got its name from the white coral inhabiting the area at depths between 49 and 213 ft.  This is truly a remarkable dive site that has been on our bucket list for many years!  This dive site is not open year-round\, but it will be open while we are there.  The Hotel We will spend 10 nights at the wonderful dive resort Paradise Taveuni Resort.  Paradise Taveuni is a remote and secluded boutique oceanfront resort on a panoramic five-acre property nestled amongst lush tropical gardens with rainforest mountains as a backdrop.  Its unique deep water frontage allows guests to dive\, snorkel and swim from the lava flow edge into pristine warm tropical waters at any time of the day. We’ll have the choice between Oceanfront Vales (1 bedroom\, ideal for couples) and Oceanview Family Bures (2 private bedrooms with a King Bed in each\, ideal for two single travelers).  Every room has a tropical outdoor shower in it’s own private lava-rock garden\, a generous king bed (or two) and a spacious deck for reading and enjoying the views. Sample picture of a roomDATES AND FLIGHTS The trip will take place from September 7th to 17th.  This means that you’ll fly out of east coast US on Saturday afternoon\, September 7th and will be back Wednesday September 18th. Flights are not included in the package deal.  There is only one airline flying from the US to Fiji (Nadi International Airport)\, Fiji Airways.  Coming from Atlanta\, we will have to connect through either LAX or SFO.  Arriving on Nadi\, we’ll have to take an inland flight to Taveuni.  The inland flights are typically around $200-$300 round trip. Map of TaveuniThe flight schedules for next September aren’t posted yet but judging by this year’s prices and schedules\, we are expecting prices between $1500 and $1700 per person\, for round trip flights in the main cabin. Expect a total travel time of around 20 hours each way.  TRIP COSTS We have the choice between Oceanview Family Bures\, each with two bedrooms making it perfect for two people sharing; and the Oceanfront Vales with one bedroom.  The price per Bures/Vale is the same.
